My Joy Pin is a simple and convenient web service for managing content in the InterPlanetary File System, a decentralized web protocol and peer-to-peer network of the same name, for storing and sharing files without using a central server.

This service may be of interest to those who follow the latest technologies, in particular, the development of Web3 and decentralization. Based on a public and global P2P network, it will help you not only store your files, but also share them, view, edit, organize and search. You can even publish everything as a website.

Sooner or later you will want to share some content with your friends, and perhaps with the world. The easiest way, of course, is to post it on social networks, or send it via messenger, or save it in one of the online storages. All of these methods have the problem of ownership, which you lose. But let’s talk about that next time. And here about the good stuff.

InterPlanetary File System, abbreviated IPFS, is a global P2P network for storing and sharing files, based on a protocol that uses Content Identifiers instead of the usual URL addresses. A Content Identifier, abbreviated CID, is both an address and a confirmation of data integrity, since the identifier is a unique hash created based on the file contents. If even one byte in the contents is changed, the Content Identifier will change too - it will be another file and a different address.

How can Pinning service help?

Of course, you can store and share files from your computer. But this method has a drawback - when you turn off the computer, others will no longer be able to find the file you were going to share. Also, if you are on a local network or using a modem, you can connect, but they will not be able to connect to you.

A Pinning service serves as your representative on the network, which is always online. This is very similar to well-known services, only the technology is different, which does not oblige you to be tied to a specific vendor. Also, the capacity of the Pinning service is much greater than the size of your disk. Also, the Pinning service has many permanent connections, and has every chance of finding the content you are interested in faster.

Since the address is a content identifier, it can be shared with those who have the IPFS application installed. But, not everyone has it for various reasons. And not all browsers can use such addresses.

In addition to storage, the Pinning service can also help share your content by creating a regular web link.

It is a bit complicated to use an immutable file system. We are used to the usual one, where you can edit, add, delete. Therefore, the Pinning service takes care of the technical side, and you are provided with a file manager-like representation of folders and files with complete freedom of change.

When you have a content identifier, of course you want to view it somehow. Pinning service includes an explorer, with which you can view directories and files. There is even a preview of photos, videos, documents and web pages.

Some types of files, such as text or markdown, can be edited directly on the network.

The service has a familiar mechanism for obtaining a web link to specific content, including access restrictions.

Registration and login

You may have noticed that in addition to the option to log in with an email or social login, there is another one - login with a crypto wallet. This is a modern authorization method, in which you control access, and not the service provider, because the secret key, necessary for signing, is only in your wallet and nowhere else.

Websites, in particular ours, send your wallet a certain text that needs to be signed. Your wallet will show you this request, and you have a choice - to sign or refuse. If you agree, the wallet transfers the signed document to the site - and you are authorized.

However, in the wild Internet, be careful and always read what you sign - you can be slipped a request for a transaction and you will lose money. Never blindly sign anything that mentions any amounts.

You will also notice that on our site everything happens within spaces, and your account is the owner or member. You can add your accounts from other devices to your space, or invite friends.
